Time Walk is an upcoming metalcore act from Springfield, MO. These bad boys bring the most badass riffs for all the mosh clappin', crowd killin', faygo-drinkin' juggalos out there. Do not sleep on this band (how could you?). 100% in my top 10 aoty so far.
I definitely recommend seeing them if they're coming close to you, you won't regret it, they're live show is like none other
Timewalk is a new band from Springfield Missouri, the kind of metallic hardcore that you want to crowd kill to. This entire track is a banger, so check it out. Great guys, great music, good ol' fashioned metallic hardcore song-writing. I was told they have a five song release coming out soon, so be on the lookout. Springfield Hardcore.
Gary, Indiana metallic hardcore band Corkscrew's newest release, Path To Hell, is 14 minutes of pure hell. Released on Work Ethic Records, back in December, Corkscrew throws themselves into the light by showing just what they're capable of. Each track is filled with anger, Derick's vocal range and the band's musical talent keeping the listener under their trance the entire time. Metal-c0re aspects can be seen in songs such as "Abhorrence", and catchy guitar riffs are found throughout. The songwriting ability of those in corkscrew is found in the smallest parts of these songs, from the guitar solo in "Path to Hell" to the ridiculous beatdown breakdown in "Abhorrence". So check this out, and order the cassette off of Work Ethic. This guys are great.
Straight out of bikini bottom, Deathcore Straight Edge Band xSPONGExCOREx's first release, How Tough Are Yah? is a release you just can't pass up. Filled with Deathcore breakdowns every fourteen and a half seconds and full of a variety of vocals, this is a really interesting five minutes. Everything in this release screams 8th grade scene kid moshe so check this out, vying for a spot on my top 10 releases of 2014

So I'm a big fan of Djent music, and djent music accessories, so I kind of searched this one out on the good ole' Bandcamp. Surprisingly there are quite a few of the bands, however there aren't that many pay as you will/free download bands. So I came across A Universe Within, band out of Harrisonburg, Virginia.
If you don't know what djent is, it's a spinoff of heavy metal that was originally created by Meshuggah.
A lot of people make fun of it because the guitars essentially use only the top strings in most songs, and the highly tuned down strings make a sound that sounds like the word djent. Weird time signatures, either all heavy vocals, or a mix of heavy and clean, and probably some other weird things. Played with 7 or 8 string guitars. Double bass peddle, a genre people don't consider a genre sometimes. Progressive shit ya know the likes. Watch this, i find this hilarious.
Anyway, The Chosen by A Universe Within is a 6 song release that is chock full of the djenty djent noises that anyone could ever want. The music is really good, with a hardcore aspect thrown in. "Coitus Hiatus" has a totally cool *MOSHE* part that I would get down to. Especially if you like Djent music, or progressive and stuff, this is the kind of stuff you can get into.
Clean vocals clean up the chorus for "Homobrophobia" so if you're into metalcore and stuff that's the song for you. Plus, again, you've got some awesome music.
Overall, what I see for this release, is that the music is something that I like a lot. Vocal wise, the screams are good and are what are needed for this kind of music. Clean vocals are pop-ish and stuff. This would be an amazing release if I wasn't so against what these guys were singing about. Especially the first song.

ALMOST all djent bands are made up of guys that are like this, wear bro-tanks and stuff, so I guess it just goes with the genre. But yeah, anyway, good music if you can deal with not the best opinions.
ARE YOU READY TO GET U MOSH(e) ON?
If you weren't before, after, and only after you listen to all five hours of breakdowns and other things that don't 100% match up, you'll want to hate mosh you're grandmother. I'm guessing these must all be bands from Iowa? If so, what the hell Iowa are you guys holding out on us bring some mosh over to Missouri. So me being not the BIGGEST fan of Metalcore, but still kinda able to get into it, kinda enjoyed this giant thingy. But then again I'm a little confused because not all of these bands are "core" bands. You'll find bands like Goods (emo/emo throwback) and then there is an acoustic song like four songs in. So this isn't all metalcore, but the first few million hours is. It's not bad though, all of these songs are really good, and there are quite a few gems in here. All of these are good bands and it's cool to see a compilation of this size. Props to the Black Hand Promotions and the Iowacore guys and gals. It's cool because if you're like me you can't just sit and listen to this entire thing straight, I mean come on it's hella long. But you can always come back and just chose a part and go. You find so many different things that it's crazy cool. Pop Punk, Metalcore, Acoustic, Hardcore, Emo, Djent, everything. Iowa has a nice looking scene. Download this. It only takes a LONG time but it's worth it.
Body Core is a modern Swedish Death Metal band bordering on Thrashcore, Deathcore, and Metalcore. Hailing from Hässleholm, they were formed in '97, went on a hiatus in '09 and started writing again in 2013.
This album starts out with a sound clip of a man screaming "Shoot me!" and it sets the tone for the whole rest of the album. Disturbing. Don't get me wrong, I like disturbing, but I was a little unnerved by this man's voice. He seemed to be in so much pain... so much agony. Deathcore ensues after what I assume is the click of a gun. You couldn't understand the lyrics unless you looked them up and read them with the music... But you probably could understand them if you could read them. This album was produced really, really well, I don't even have to mess with the equalization. The song changes suddenly into almost classic metal, then to a Metalcore section... back to Deathcore. Suddenly, there is a... Ska breakdown. All these genre changes don't detract from the seriousness of the album, oddly enough. It's actually really cool to hear, and shows how versatile this band really is. The second track is basically the same story, minus the semi-clean bridge that goes into a Wintersun type Blackend Power Metal riff. Track three starts off with with a double tracked speaker over a guitar with some interesting effects. It's still clean, but it's just about to break up and there is a large amount of delay. The speaker is obviously talking about sex. The next track starts off as a technical Deathcore type riff. I don't think I can stress enough how often this band changes genres. I'm almost reminded of jazz during the clean section of this song. I keep having to check the song list to make sure it's the same song. Back to the Marilyn Manson type speaking, into a jazz breakdown...
Overall, this band is really good. Just when you think you've heard it all, they throw something new at you. I give this album an 87/100, and would definitely recommend this to a friend who likes modern death metal.

Purgatory is a hardcore band with heavy metal aspects from Nebraska. Rabid Visions is the band's newest release, and is a short one, clocking in at nine minutes. Production is really well done, and mixing was done well. Vocals are metal-esq, not the kind you'll find in the normal hardcore scene. Kinda reminds me of Harms Way. Anyway, if it wasn't for the breakdowns, this would be a metal album, and if it added some clean vocals, it would be metalcore. You've got your chugs throughout most of the release, and there is some scattered double bass peddle, making a nice addition instead of the constant double bass peddle that you find in metalcore bands. In Rabid Visions there is this sick breakdown that I really enjoyed listening to and that came out of no where. Check this release out, everyone in the band is really good at what they do.
Spirit filled melodic hardcore/metalcore-esq band Messengers from the 417's first release, Wolves gave me more than I was expecting. I'm not exactly one for Christian-core, but even with the lyrics, I really love Wolves. First off, production is done amazingly, the kind of production you see in mainstream bands with big production value. Local studio Chi Rho studios is to thank for that. Next, instrumentation and song writing is great, songs flow together, and I didn't find much repetition.
Don't even get me started on the vocals.
The vocal talent for the vocalist (Juan) amazed me. I knew he was good, but the lows and hi's this guy has are sick. The best part is he uses his lows intermittently, sticking to his hi fry-esq vocals most of the time, so when he does throw in those deep, cathartic lows, it's amazing. I don't think I can describe it well enough, so check this release out. Especially "Judgement."
As for the rest of the instrumentation, it's mixed quite well, so nothing stands out overly. Everyone is really talented at their instruments, and I dig the drums. The featuring of the female vocals kinda chilled out the ending to the release, but on a whole it's really angry, even for a "Spirit filled" release. To wrap it up, check out "Judgement". The breakdown is something I want to see live. Also, got to meet some of these guys at a local show, and they were some seriously nice dudes.
The newest release by Bayside Kings is one that you can move to. Once this band picks up the energy, they keep it rolling, and in these four songs the listener's attention is grabbed from the start. Vocals are a mix of yells and screams, and a metalcore aspect is seen in these songs. Chugs are scattered throughout and you'll find the occasional technical guitar solo, but the hardcore aspect of the songs is strong. The tempo is high, and gang vocals are thrown throughout. In all, it's a real solid release, and the production is very well done. Check it out at their bandcamp.
Renegades by Wolf Down is a run of the mill hardcore release that you can find anywhere on bandcamp. What is supposed to be a hardcore/punk release turns into a hardcore/punk release pushing towards the metalcore genre instrumental wise. Drumming is very hardcore-esq, and guitar is filled chock full of chugs and head-rolling parts that anyone could get down and pit to. Bass is lost in the mix in many of the songs, only especially heard in "Stone Cold" Vocals are very throaty. Production however as a whole, is very professional sounding and well done. As I said, Wolf Down seems like something that anyone could pit to.
