//deepest pain i've ever felt|Crux\\
1. Intro
2. Anomaly
3. World View
4. Everlove

Hey long time no post, and I'm back with a backlog of reviews that I should have accomplished forever ago. This release is from Joplin-area based band, Crux. Delivering some of the best grind/metallic-hardcore you'll find in the area, Crux's release, deepest pain i've ever felt is short, sweet, and to the point. With crushing riffs throughout and cathartic vocals, this release is one you'll have to listen to more than once. Give it a shot

Fight Back by Time Walk

Timewalk: Fight Back

Single
2015

Timewalk is a new band from Springfield Missouri, the kind of metallic hardcore that you want to crowd kill to. This entire track is a banger, so check it out. Great guys, great music, good ol' fashioned metallic hardcore song-writing. I was told they have a five song release coming out soon, so be on the lookout. Springfield Hardcore.

Interview with 417 band, Ritual

I got to talk with front man Kyle Roller of the new 417 Metallic Hardcore band, Ritual, who just released their Demo, Nascentes Morimur. The album, which is reminiscent of 90's dad metal, is a five track release filled with anger and spit. The band, which I had the pleasure of watching at a recent show, is well put together and has a great live sound which puts it on my radar as a must watch band for 2015.

First off, I really really dig the sound, you guys are great and I loved seeing you live at the recent Homewrecker show. How long have you guys been a band?
Well I actually am not an original member. After surrender decided they were done Tyler and Tanner decided to play around with some other sounds and jammed a lot winter of last year with some other guys. When the drummer they had wasn't working out tanner hit me up to play drums and that was probably August or September of this year. We added Cole and JD when we finally started getting asked to play gigs regularly in probably October or September

What are some influences on your music?
Turmoil, Disembodied, Bloodlet are probably the three biggest ones but we draw inspiration from all over. Chokehold, Stigmata, Earth Crisis, VOD are all bands we love to draw inspiration from even if it's not present stylistically... If that makes any sense.

I saw that you guys recently played down in Texas, how was that? I know that Texas has an amazing hardcore scene, and it's really cool that you guys got to play down there.
DFW hardcore is so awesome. We played an awesome fest for an awesome cause and had an absolute blast. We got a great reaction and got a lot of really great feedback. There are videos from almost every set that weekend and they are all so sick.

So I heard you guys have a split coming up, who is it with and when is it coming out? of life from the DFW area. It should be out somewhere between now and this summer.

Any cool shows coming up?

And Even cooler yet, all of the videos from the show that they played down in texas can be found on this facebook page:
Facebook Page with all of them videos

But if you want to see just that amazing ritual video, here it is.

I'm telling you check these guys out. They are a band you do not want to miss out on.

Path to Hell by Corkscrew

*PATH TO HELL* by Corkscrew
1. Lord have Mercy
2. Shame
3. Undeserving
4. Path To Hell
5. Abhorrence
6. LTDBTD

Gary, Indiana metallic hardcore band Corkscrew's newest release, Path To Hell, is 14 minutes of pure hell. Released on Work Ethic Records, back in December, Corkscrew throws themselves into the light by showing just what they're capable of. Each track is filled with anger, Derick's vocal range and the band's musical talent keeping the listener under their trance the entire time. Metal-c0re aspects can be seen in songs such as "Abhorrence", and catchy guitar riffs are found throughout. The songwriting ability of those in corkscrew is found in the smallest parts of these songs, from the guitar solo in "Path to Hell" to the ridiculous beatdown breakdown in "Abhorrence". So check  this out, and order the cassette off of Work Ethic. This guys are great.

Favorite track: Abhorrence.

Circle of Death by Homewrecker

Circle Of Death by Homewrecker
Forced Under
Circle Of Death
Born To Suffer
Illusions of Peace
Authority of the Mind
Skin The Pig
Punish the Ignorance
Silence the Weak
Unconscious

Ohio Doom-Hardcore band, Homewrecker, recently released the nine track full length album, Circle Of Death. Circle of Death is a step up from their previous release in 2012, Worms And Dirt, in both production and musical ability. Each song is fast, to the point, and crushing. The instrumentation is unforgiving; dropped tuning and quick drums help show that speed isn’t leaving hardcore, something that many could worry about with some of the newer releases from other big name bands. Vocals are deep, guttural growls that convey hatred and emotion. And what is hardcore music, or any music for that matter, if it holds no emotion? Hardcore music is all about emotion and anger, something that Homewrecker did not forget as they strove to become a more well known band.

Production is very well managed with this newest release, something that is usually not taken too much into consideration with bands of the genre. The mix is well done, and each part is heard clear. Something that I really am enjoying about the mixing of the instrumentation is how loud the bass is heard over everything else. With the instruments tuned down, the bass leaves only a dull clanking sound, but with the fast paced strumming and strong bass lines, the instrument leaves little guess work as to what is going on. Drums consist of D-beats and blast beats, simple punk-hardcore drumming, nothing that stands out and I will remember. As for guitars, the rhythm is fast and throughout the release the lead takes quick guitar solos that, as a guitarist, give me shivers.

I’d like to digress, and say that I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Homewrecker live, when they came through my area with similar bands, Backtrack and Harms Way. They put on a great show, and me seeing them live is the reason i’ve decided to take a look at this new release. What really stood out to me when seeing Homewrecker would be that each member of the band does vocals aside from the lead vocalist. While all vocal styles are similar in the band, it’s an exciting thing when all four members break off into either gang vocals or chaotic-like sections of songs.

The thing about almost every new age hardcore band, is that it’s so easy to sound like every other band that’s out there. It was a problem back in the 80’s when hardcore-punk founding fathers such as Minor Threat, Youth of Today, and Circle Jerks were around, but that was punk music, and no one cared about instrumentation or production, everything was recorded in one take with an 8-track, and it was cool just to get your music out to be heard. Now days, with the amount of music that is heard daily, and with the internet to spread songs around, it’s not rare that you hear one band playing an almost identical guitar riff that another band you’ve heard plays. In all honesty maybe that’s why hardcore music these days is fading into a crossover with Metalcore music, as seen in Code Orange’s newest release, I Am King.  However, when it comes to ohio outfit, Homewrecker, the music is something that, while heard before, revamps my need to go out and listen to old fast hardcore music, to even listen to old metal bands such as Slayer, and Megadeath. If you’re a fan of the genre, and you’re looking for one of the best hardcore releases of 2014, Circle of Death, by Homewrecker, is the album for you.

You Still Suck by P.S. Fuck You

//You Still Suck||P.S. Fuck You\\
1. You've Got "God" On Your Side (I Caught You Praying Earlier)
2. Escape
3. F.N.A
4. Abyss
5. Cocaine Vatican
6. Pass The Knife
7. Rest In Shit
P.S.Fuck You throws down some crazy powerviolence/sludge/grindcore with You Still Suck, showcasing what they can do in just around seven minutes. Filled with loud guitar and destructive drums, a mixture of screeching highs and deep, dark growls, and spacy-feedback, this is one angry release. Runtimes are, of course, short as hell, but there is still a lot of song here. The final song on this is the kicker, showcasing some crazy vocals and some crazy instrumentation and some crazy shit in general. The kind of stuff you get fucked up to. And if you close your eyes and imagine hard enough, you can pretend that the entire release is just one long 7 minute song.

1. Born Under a Bad Sign
2. Forced Out
3. Pulled Apart

417 Midwest Hardcore band Low Life just released Demo 2014, a five track mosh-tastic banger. Low Life features members of 417 hardcore band Blackhole, and if you're a fan of hardcore or metallic hardcore music, this is the release for you. Each song is a little more diabolic than the one previous, and every song on the release is full of greatness. The kinda stuff that you'll fall in love with. One of the best hardcore bands i've listened to in a while, and they're a local, so you'll for sure want to check them out. If you know me, the two things I look for in hardcore music are:

The Chosen by A Universe Within

The Chosen {A Universe Within}
1. Coitus Hiatus
2. Homobrophobia
3. Omega Point
4. Somniloquy
5. Existential Crisis
6. Negotiating with the Arbiter

So I'm a big fan of Djent music, and djent music accessories, so I kind of searched this one out on the good ole' Bandcamp. Surprisingly there are quite a few of the bands, however there aren't that many pay as you will/free download bands. So I came across A Universe Within, band out of Harrisonburg, Virginia.
If you don't know what djent is, it's a spinoff of heavy metal that was originally created by Meshuggah.
A lot of people make fun of it because the guitars essentially use only the top strings in most songs, and the highly tuned down strings make a sound that sounds like the word djent. Weird time signatures, either all heavy vocals, or a mix of heavy and clean, and probably some other weird things. Played with 7 or 8 string guitars. Double bass peddle, a genre people don't consider a genre sometimes.  Progressive shit ya know the likes. Watch this, i find this hilarious.
Anyway, The Chosen by A Universe Within is a 6 song release that is chock full of the djenty djent noises that anyone could ever want. The music is really good, with a hardcore aspect thrown in. "Coitus Hiatus" has a totally cool *MOSHE* part that I would get down to. Especially if you like Djent music, or progressive and stuff, this is the kind of stuff you can get into.
Clean vocals clean up the chorus for "Homobrophobia" so if you're into metalcore and stuff that's the song for you. Plus, again, you've got some awesome music.

Overall, what I see for this release, is that the music is something that I like a lot. Vocal wise, the screams are good and are what are needed for this kind of music. Clean vocals are pop-ish and stuff. This would be an amazing release if I wasn't so against what these guys were singing about. Especially the first song.
Shut your fucking mouth
Get your knees up off the floor
Shut your fucking legs
Bitch, quit being a whore
ALMOST all djent bands are made up of guys that are like this, wear bro-tanks and stuff, so I guess it just goes with the genre. But yeah, anyway, good music if you can deal with not the best opinions.

Deeper by Blackhole

1. Deeper
2. Not Cool Enough
3. Keep Spitting
4. Art Extortion
5. Lost Sight, Start a Fight

Wen u fav hardcore band puts out a new release
417 band Blackhole just released Deeper. This 5 song release features 4 new songs and 1 song from a past release. The title track, "Deeper" is a really cool intro that was released first and everybody listened to and I absolutely love it.  I mean I like everything about this release. But in all honesty like I said I like Blackhole a lot. Production is really well done on this, and instrumental wise, as always with this band and these guys, these guys are all really good at songwriting. Cool thing, aside from the normal just Hal doing vocals, Dustin and Brennden also make some vocal appearances. I dig it when bands do that. Use what you have, ya know? "Art Extortion" has a really cool message, as do all of the songs on this release. Blackhole carries the kind of message about doing what you do because you love to do what you do and stuff and I don't know just listen to it don't read this this.

Love the remake of "Lost Sight, Start A Fight" It's one of the songs that I never really payed too much attention to on the self titled, but what with the new sound and the addition of Dustin doing a small vocal part, it's one of my favorite on the releases as a whole. I'm glad they didn't do "Back Alley Brain Abortion" or anything like that because I mean everyone knows that song and stuff but yeah cool stuff. Good job Blackhole.

Favorite track overall: lost sight start a fight
Favorite new track: Art Extortion (I'm a sucker for talking part things)

Only Truth Remains by ALIENATE YOU

Only Truth Remains | ALIENATE YOU
1. Strife
2. Elephant Skin
3. Place of Suffering
4. Alienate You
5. Follow
ALIENATE YOU IS A METALLIC HARDCORE BAND FROM SPRINGFIELD MISSOURI AND THEY ARE HERE TO KARATE CHOP YOU IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD WITH THEIR MUSIC.

So I've seen these guys play live quite a few times, and each time they get the crowd moving so much you'd think they're a touring band from bridge 9. They played 2nd when Backpack (Backtrack) came through and the moshe was strong with this band. Plus these guys just ooze confidence on stage so that's something. These guys are going to go somewhere.
Okay so as my friend Kasey remarked upon the band during our discussion of them, that's the most megadeath sounding guitar ever. Run times are too long for hardcore, but just about right for that metallic hardcore sound that they are. Wonderful production, progressive songwriting, and the musical talent of these guys makes this release the kind that may just top my top releases of the year list. Now to be honest, I didn't exactly like it when I first heard it. "These guys know what they are doing and they're really good at what they do but I dunno, I can't get into them." Well that was about a week ago and after not being able to get the god damn riffs from "Strife" out of my head, I've listened to this release a shit ton. Cool thing about Strife: Them guest vocals. Even though it's a really fucking long song((for me)), it's really cool and moshetastic.
Travis's vocals are something that on their own. They're like old fashioned hardcore vocals but with that metallic spin on it and even though they give me that angry feeling of listen to hardcore music, whenever he does his "woah ho ho" stuff I just wanna smile and high five him.
Great release check it out, blah blah blah, all that stuff. This really is a really good release, and if you ever see a show with these guys on the ticket, go to it.
Superficial remarks: Love Ethan's guitar. Travis is just entertaining to watch live, and they're all really nice guys (to me at least). Vocals are all awesome and get stuck in your head and after hearing "Place of Suffering" once I was able to sing along live. I like the way their bandcamp looks.

Favorite track: Strife (but damn these are all good)

Under Darkness and Prayer by Vulgar Display

Under Darkness and Prayer  | Vulgar Display
1. Final Taste
2. No God Here
3. Voices Unknown
4. Architects of Corruption
5. Guilty Spared
6. One Eye Open

"Alright guys r u ready 2 2 step till u heart explodes?"

Vulgar Display, Dallas Texas Hardcore, is one of those hardcore bands everyone talked about but I never listened to, so I decided to check them out. I'll tell you what, these guys are a jam to listen to. They've got all the skanky palm muted parts you could ever want, and I bet the pits at these guys shows are crazy.
Now in retrospect however, I've heard better hardcore bands that aren't as big. However, for how big these guys are, they've probably got something up their sleeve to deserve it. Probably a killer live performance. It's not like this isn't a good release, it's actually really really good. I'm probably just listening to too much music.
Anyway, these guys take a metallic spin on what they do, which I always find cool (Think ALIENATE YOU) and such, but these guys are the most hardcore metallic hardcore band I've seen in a while. Vulgar Display is hard hitting and the kind of hardcore that is simple, mindless, but what you want to hear.
Production on this release is really well done, and it's not that long. Although however relatively speaking, it's a pretty long hardcore release.
I'll be putting these guys in my tr00 hxc playlist and I'll be waiting for more music. They're coming to the good ol' 417 soon so that'll be cool.
Check em' out if you haven't (You probably have)

IOWACORE COMPILATION VOLUME TRIPLE I

Iowacore Volume 3
91 tracks that I refuse to list

ARE YOU READY TO GET U MOSH(e) ON?
If you weren't before, after, and only after you listen to all five hours of breakdowns and other things that don't 100% match up, you'll want to hate mosh you're grandmother. I'm guessing these must all be bands from Iowa? If so, what the hell Iowa are you guys holding out on us bring some mosh over to Missouri. So me being not the BIGGEST fan of Metalcore, but still kinda able to get into it, kinda enjoyed this giant thingy. But then again I'm a little confused because not all of these bands are "core" bands. You'll find bands like Goods (emo/emo throwback) and then there is an acoustic song like four songs in. So this isn't all metalcore, but the first few million hours is. It's not bad though, all of these songs are really good, and there are quite a few gems in here.  All of these are good bands and it's cool to see a compilation of this size. Props to the Black Hand Promotions and the Iowacore guys and gals. It's cool because if you're like me you can't just sit and listen to this entire thing straight, I mean come on it's hella long. But you can always come back and just chose a part and go. You find so many different things that it's crazy cool. Pop Punk, Metalcore, Acoustic, Hardcore, Emo, Djent, everything. Iowa has a nice looking scene. Download this. It only takes a LONG time but it's worth it.

favorite track: f-dat I can't choose.

Black Hole - Land of Mystery

Black Hole - Land of Mystery

Tracks:
1. Demoniac City
2. Land of Mystery
3. All my Evil
4. Bells of Death
5. Blind Men and Occult Forces
6. Spectral World
7. Obscurity in the Ethereal House
8. Overture
9. Angels of Lucifer
10. Crying Puppets
11. End of All Times

Background:
Blackhole, or Black Hole, I'm not sure what the correct spelling is, is an early '80s Doom Metal band. I found them searching on Spotify for a local band, since I can only really use my school computer and therefore bandcamp cannot be used. Formed in '83 in Verona, Veneto, Italy, they released a few demos before releasing their first full length, "Land of Mystery," in '85.

A haunting symphony starts this album. If I were to compare them to a newer band, they remind me a lot of Ghost (B.C.), their thin, almost whisper-ey and fairly high pitched male vocalist, and satanic, creepy theme. the difference is their guitar tone is MUCH thicker, their bass well produced and one of the defining factors of this band. The band itself reminds me a lot of Black Sabbath or Candlemass. To say the least, its haunting. Definately something I'd play on Halloween. Ghost-like vocals, a bass with a wah pedal. There's really nothing I dislike about this band. I generally don't like higher pitched male vocalists, but this one fits the band well. The intro to "Bells of Death" reminds me so much of Suicidal Tendencies's "How Can I Laugh Tomorrow," that I wouldn't be surprised if Suicidal Tendencies copied Black Hole.
One thing I must touch on though is this is no easy listen. Songs regularly exceed 7 minutes, a few of them 8 minute monsters.

This is a GREAT doom metal album, and is an essential listen for ANYONE who likes any form of Doom Metal. 88/100. The long song length wears on you after awhile.

Favorite song: Demoniac City. Classic Doom Metal.

Iron Born--Crimes Against Humanity

Iron Born--Crimes Against Humanity

note: ACAB

Tracks:
Crimes Against Humanity
Survivor
Birthrite
St. Peter
Earth & Hell
Evil Thing (Danzig cover)

Yeahhhhh, Iron Born, is a OK metallic hardcore band. Man, these guys are heavy, not like sludge-heavy, but HEAVY. This ep is so tight and clean. It almost sounds professional (probably is). Crystal clear and on fire, Crimes Against Humanity starts off with your typical hardcore open strums. \cool/ The vocals on this track has a lot of attitude, so watch out cops, you're not safe while this is playing. The riff that slows down at the end of the first track increases heaviness by 20%. The beginning of Survivor probably has the tightest groove I've heard in awhile, I just want to listen to that groove for the 2:24 time slot. (I don't have anything else to say about the rest of that song)

Birthrite comes out like a punch from the south, blues-rock influence is strong and I dig it. The bluesy guitar lead/solo totally compliments this. Vocals are very sassy. The only thing I could think about during St. Peter is this is probably what RZL DZL would sound like if they took themselves seriously. (lol) Earth & Hell gets all 80's trash going here, digging those groove parts, homies.

That Danzig cover was tight.

Note: Drum tones sound better than most hardcore eps I've listened to (I need stop listening to so much poor-recorded emo crap) and also, I played with these guys in sometime in January (In springfield) with my band, Alpha.

fav track: Birthrite

S/T by East Beast

S/T | East Beast
1. Burn
2. Ruthless
3. No Competition
4. Minds Like Mine
5. My Third Eye

I found this Boston hardcore band, East Beast in the back ally of the hardcore bandcamp tag. This self titled release is the last thing this band has put out, and it was back in 2012, so I'm not sure if they are still making music or not, but after listening to it, I really hope they are. East Beast is a hard hitting fast paced release that kept me entertained in the full 5 minutes that it played. The vocalist's vocals were a nice change to the hardcore i've been listening to. Production is really good overall from this release, and the songwriting is strong with this band. Check it out, it's something I'll be listening to for a while.

Favorite Track: Minds Like Mine
