You Still Suck by P.S. Fuck You

//You Still Suck||P.S. Fuck You\\
1. You've Got "God" On Your Side (I Caught You Praying Earlier)
2. Escape
3. F.N.A
4. Abyss
5. Cocaine Vatican
6. Pass The Knife
7. Rest In Shit
P.S.Fuck You throws down some crazy powerviolence/sludge/grindcore with You Still Suck, showcasing what they can do in just around seven minutes. Filled with loud guitar and destructive drums, a mixture of screeching highs and deep, dark growls, and spacy-feedback, this is one angry release. Runtimes are, of course, short as hell, but there is still a lot of song here. The final song on this is the kicker, showcasing some crazy vocals and some crazy instrumentation and some crazy shit in general. The kind of stuff you get fucked up to. And if you close your eyes and imagine hard enough, you can pretend that the entire release is just one long 7 minute song.

Filled with Deathcore breakdowns every fourteen and a half seconds and full of a variety of vocals, this is a really interesting five minutes. IOWACORE COMPILATION VOLUME TRIPLE I

Iowacore Volume 3
91 tracks that I refuse to list

ARE YOU READY TO GET U MOSH(e) ON?
If you weren't before, after, and only after you listen to all five hours of breakdowns and other things that don't 100% match up, you'll want to hate mosh you're grandmother. I'm guessing these must all be bands from Iowa? If so, what the hell Iowa are you guys holding out on us bring some mosh over to Missouri. So me being not the BIGGEST fan of Metalcore, but still kinda able to get into it, kinda enjoyed this giant thingy. But then again I'm a little confused because not all of these bands are "core" bands. You'll find bands like Goods (emo/emo throwback) and then there is an acoustic song like four songs in. So this isn't all metalcore, but the first few million hours is. It's not bad though, all of these songs are really good, and there are quite a few gems in here.  All of these are good bands and it's cool to see a compilation of this size. Props to the Black Hand Promotions and the Iowacore guys and gals. It's cool because if you're like me you can't just sit and listen to this entire thing straight, I mean come on it's hella long. But you can always come back and just chose a part and go. You find so many different things that it's crazy cool. Pop Punk, Metalcore, Acoustic, Hardcore, Emo, Djent, everything. Iowa has a nice looking scene. Download this. It only takes a LONG time but it's worth it.

favorite track: f-dat I can't choose.

(Shout out to Kegan of Corkscrew/goods for sending me this shit)
(all these bands may not be from iowa idk I'm stupid)

Father Figures Split by Marcy

Father Figures Split | Marcy
Single Track Release

Milwaukee skramz/punk band Marcy's release, Father Figures Split is a seven and a half minute non-stop release filled with heavy hitting instrumentation and high screeching vocals. Contradicting to the release title, I don't believe this is a split. As I said it's only one song, and it all flows pretty seamlessly. Plus it sounds like the same band throughout. The songs flow as if you were watching a band play through their set list as fast as they can, and even though it's a really lo-fi release, what you can hear from the guitars is something that's fun to listen to. For sure a skramz band. Check it out.

Ledges by Blackhole

Ledges | Blackhole
1. Intro/ The blackhole
2. Frames
3. Crosstica
4. 5/22
5. Wolves In Pigs Clothing
6. Ledges

Not sure how I haven't already reviewed this release, Ledges by Blackhole is an amazing hardcore release. Their sophomore release, Ledges shows the same angry be who you are, don't listen to others, aspects as Blackhole's self titled release did. This is the release I listen to whenever I want to get pumped before I go play a show. Run times are short, the first five songs lasting around 1 minute each, and "Ledges" clocking in above 3 minutes. I showed this release to my non-hardcore/progressive rock loving military brother, and it was even something that he could get into. Production value is DIY, but it's on the good side of DIY, so you can clearly differentiate between all the instruments/Hal's voice. Great release, must have.

Lost Boys Demo by Piece of Mind

Lost Boys Demo by Piece Of Mind
1. P.O.M
2. Youth Brigade
3. Stand Together
4. Myself
5. The Truth

Piece of Mind released their demo, Lost Boys, today, and I found it (once again) through a local promoter's Facebook Page. Anyway, the first thing I noticed about this band was that the songs are short. Like, almost powerviolence short but they aren't powerviolence so I don't know, but I dig the whole short song thing: say what you need to say and then get lost. The demo starts off with this kicking bass line that reminds me of some kind of Ceremony thingy and then the rest of the release is high energy. Even for being low run time songs, the tempo's of these songs aren't exactly high, more mid-range: something you can two step to. Vocals are angry and hard to understand, and drumming (Surf rock beat in "Myself") is what stands out to me most of all in this entire release, even though guitar is the most heavy in the mix. Something you can get into, but not really an angry hardcore release. More youth-crew-esq, but maybe that's just me.

i by Surrender

i by Surrender
1. Intro
2. Crooks
3. Deprived
4. The Thought of You
5. Cuts
6. Father's Day
7. Outro

i is Surrender's first release. Surrender is a local 417 hardcore band, and is one of the first local, if not hardcore in general, bands I ever got to. I'm reviewing their first release now (I've already reviewed Golden Noose) because it's come to my attention that this band will be breaking up after playing their last show on February 6th. I couldn't believe it when I heard this, for one, I love this band, for two, I don't like it when bands break up. It's sad. Anyway, Surrender brought a new kinda hardcore into Springfield. A chaotic/dark hardcore that I love to see. The shows that I've watched youtube videos of that feature this band are just crazy. Talk about pitting. I've never actually seen them live, but by god I'm going to their final show if it kills me. Anyway, this release stands out to me with it's constant changing guitar and drum parts, the driving bass lines and the deep vocals from the original vocalist of Surrender (Now voiced by Christian of Surrender). Really love this band and everything they've put out, it hurts to see them going. This is a great first release, and really got the band the notice they deserve.

Portraits of Dying by Malon

Portraits of Dying by Malon
1.Socks and Socks and Socks
2. Symphonies in Seashells
3. Shitty Art
4. Drowned in the Caspian Sea
5. A Portrait of Dying
6. Cormorants
7. Pretty Art
8. An Osiria Rose
9. Tree Accidents
Portraits of Dying is the newest release by Malon, an Emo/Skramz/Twinkle band. This release however, is one you can't just place into one category. You have your normal Emo/Twinkle music, you have your Skramz aspects in some places, and you have a Powerviolence aspect in "A Portrait of Dying". The final three tracks switch up the entire release in a strange way, giving a more acoustic feeling, filled with actual singing, and recorded tracks played over the music. The Vocals throughout are well done and the lyrics are something worth deciphering. This release is filled with raw emotion, and is one I'll be listening to for a long time.

The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary EP by Disinterested Handjob

The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary EP by Disinterested Handjob
1. Five rounds rapid (1:19)
2. The Empty Child (:35)
3. Museum Piece (:45)
4. The Executioners (:58)
5. The Universe according to Mavic Chan (:20)
6. The Ballod of Broton and Styggron (1:15)
7. Vashta Nerada (1:13)
8. This Will be Your Only Warning (:51)
9. The Deathsmiths of Goth (1:05)
10. Omnirumour (1:56)
11. Doctor in Distress (2:55)

So I was looking at my band, and decided to see where it ranked on Bandcamp under the "Trock Category"
First off, it did pretty well. Second, "Trock" music is any kind of music relating to the British Television show Doctor Who. (Yes, it's a real thing). This genre usually holds acoustic bands/indie bands/techno bands, with some weird name relating to Doctor Who. When I saw the name Disinterested Handjob as one of the bands under the Trock category, my interest was peaked.
So for an EP, you'll notice that this release has 11 songs; however, these songs' run times range from 20 seconds to 2:55.
What you've got yourself some generic Powerviolence songs, but with this strange techno/digital feeling to it. Many of the songs (all of them) have some Doctor Who clip set into the song, and they all surprisingly work. Not sure how much you know about the show, but if it would fancy you to know, they almost all seem to be from the old series.
The drums are pretty metalcore, the vocals that are from the actual singer are all low and grumbles, absolutely inaudible. Bass is simple, quick to the point, powerviolence bass. Guitar is the same, with a few nicely added riffs, such as at the end of "The Deathsmiths of Goth".
However, if you're looking for some powerviolence, and pop one for anything Doctor Who, than this is the release for you.

S/T by Blackhole

S/T by Blackhole
1. Back Alley Brain Abortion
2. Lost Sight Start A Fight
3. Cornerd
4. Auto-Tuned Existance
5. Homospirituality

Blackhole is a local hardcore band. I'm kind of scared to review this band because to me they are so amazing. One thing about Blackhole that I notice from this release is that there isn't really a dull moment. Another thing is this is the kind of band you get angry to. Some nice guitar riffs in Homospirituality and Back Alley Brain Abortion is great song. The Drumming in the entire album doesn't stick out to me too much, Hal's vocals and the guitar playing sticks out to me most, but maybe that's just because I'm a guitar playing boy. Cornerd, clocking in at 39 seconds, is quite a power violence song, and Blackhole seems to do it quite well.
Favorite track overall: Back Alley Brain Abortion
Blackhole is definitely something you should listen to if you are into hardcore.
